Altrusa of Orlando-Winter Park hosted the 2005 District Three
Conference. Conference Chair Carol Denton did an outstanding job -- events couldn't have run smoother!
The Conference kicked off in grand fashion with the Opening Breakfast and keynote speaker, Ruth Williams. Ruth
Williams is a consultant with Franklin-Covey Company and coauthor of
You've Got to be Kidding! and How to be Like Women of Influence.
Mrs. Williams was an excellent speaker, who was as interesting and
thought-provoking as she was entertaining!
On Friday evening, Altrusa of Orlando-Winter Park sponsored Fun Night.
Carol Thomas emceed the event and surprised us all with this hidden
talent! Altrusans really out did themselves in the tacky tourist contest,
wackiest glasses contest, craziest hat contest and the limbo contest.
Altrusans really know how to have fun!
Altrusa of Orlando-Winter Park received several awards on
Saturday at
the Award Breakfast: Outstanding Community Service Award, 2nd place
for Membership-Greatest Net Gain, 3rd place for the Myrtice H. Price
Membership Award, the Membership Incentive Credit Award for 9 to 11 new
members, 3rd place for the Newsletter Award, the 5-Star Club Award, 3rd
place for the Governor's Outstanding Club Award and Highly Documented in the
Scrapbook Recognitions.
The workshops on Friday and
Saturday were excellent! Kudos to our very own Altrusans, Barbara
Brown and Doug Adams of Studio V, who conducted a workshop on Gentle
Make-Over. Barbara and Doug shared great tips on face shape, hair
products, and makeup. Their extensive knowledge in these areas
captured the interest of everyone in the audience.
At the
Governor's Luncheon, incoming Governor Cindy Schad presented her platform
for the 2005-2007 biennium. Her theme is "Dream, Believe,
Achieve" and the butterfly is the logo. Governor Schad outlined her
plans to focus on supporting the new direction of the district strategic
plan, especially making better use of the District consultants.
Altrusans showed their creative side at the Conference service project on
Saturday. Bags were decorated for the children who are brought to the
Children's Advocacy Center. It was incredible to see the different and
fun designs created by our members.
The Conference closed on Saturday evening with the
Governor's Installation Banquet. With her wonderful family in the
audience, Cindy Schad was installed as Governor. The 2005-2007 Board
installation was presented by Sandy Furches and Donna Johnson.
Again, congratulations to the 2005 District Three Conference Committee for
an informative, fun and flawless Conference!
